(ภาษาไทยด้านล่างค่ะ) First of all, I will sum up more unfortunates of the previous two races after Nice. I twisted my ankle stepping on a rock dodging cars the day before Ironman 70.3 Chongming and developed a fever the night before racing in Pattaya. I was in a good shape for both races so it was really disappointing for not being able to finish and start. The fever turned out worse than I thought the week after Pattaya. I started coughing very badly and my muscles were aching. I had no energy and couldn't do much at all.....even getting out of bed was hard. On Sunday the week before the race I still felt pretty rough and wasn't not sure if I would be fit enough to defend my title or even race Laguna Phuket Triathlon. I managed to rode the bike course with my friends on Tuesday and could complete 45-min run without feeling like a marathon so I decided to race. I knew I wasn't at my optimal shape but I approached the start line with gratitude of getting to start at all! The condition of the ocean was perfect, no waves, crystal clear water and no jelly fish. In the washing machine, I finally found couple of big guys and tagged along with them. But then someone whacked my head and knocked my goggles off my face before reaching the first buoy. I thought I lost it and it's over! I stopped and tried to hunt for it. Luckily, I found them hanging on to my cap. Then on to the beach, made it across the lagoon and off to the bike. I didn't feel too good on the first half of the bike course so decide to ride a bit more conservatively, especially with the steep hills coming. I felt much better once getting closer to the hills. I climbed steadily and played it safe. I wanted to have a bit of reserve in the tank as I was not confident I had my full fitness to attack the run like usual. The first lap of 6km I felt really rough... I knew that the flu costed my run fitness and speed. My head started to play with me. I had those dark moments and proved that I am my own worst enemy! But I tried to concentrate on "what I can do" right here right now to have the best possible run. I kept cooling myself down and drank coke. I felt a bit better half way through and gritted my teeth to keep running. It was an absolute suffer feast but I was really glad I held it together and crossed the line as a Thai Champion for the first time, with an age group win! Verdict...... It was not my fastest race but definitely one of my best win! As a 4-times defending Thai champion, I had both physical and mental challenges of being ill and having to deal with an extra pressure. I was very stress and felt down as I worked very hard all year. I was in a very good form before I got the flu. The situation was upsetting but I appreciated that it was out of my control. There was nothing I could do but to keep my head down and race my heart out with all I had on the day. During the race, I realized that at the end of the day it was not about the title but I would never be happy without knowing I gave it my all! That's the only way I could be proud to be a 4th time Thai Champion. I was glad this happened even though having the flu before the race wasn't ideal. It was a very good learning experience for me. I gained a valuable lesson to improve myself to become a stronger person and athlete, mentally. That will definitely benefit my future races and career in sport! This is why I love triathlon so much because it gives me crazy life experiences and lessons where I have to just "BEEN THERE DONE THAT"!! And yes, I learnt that it was very hard to become a champion but...... but to defend the title, it was way harder! Special note: I definitely owed this title to many people.....I don't know if I would made it to the race at all without them. First of all, my coach Rafal, who was calm and patient. With his knowledges, experiences and positive vibes, we had me recovered in time with minimum loss of fitness and sanity! My seniors from Singha have always been very supportive in all sorts of situations. Despite all the misfortunes, I received a lot of kindness and was told to my put health and body as the first priority. My friends from Austria, Sylvia and Christian always cheered me up and gave me good advices. And the last but not least, my rocket boyfriend who has always been by my side and picked me up at the finish line!

One of those day, you find all the excuses……..“Not to Quit!” Despite all the disappointments, I learnt that sometimes it’s not the fastest races that prove how tough you are….. but the one that you needed to face the unexpected. Focusing on the positives, I made it to the start of this race in a great running shape and finished the day safely. More than half of the race was spent trying not to faint and vomit but at the finish line I saw my good friend, Elena who had a tough day but still had a great big smile on her face....Thank you for a good lesson Elena. My performance did not reflect my training and the fitness I had coming into the race. I caught some stomach and did not feel so good in the race. I ended up in the hospital in Nice on Sunday night with pretty bad gastroenteritis and spent the next whole day lying in bed. The symptoms probably got worse after the immune system dropped after the race. Arriving in Nice from the altitude, I felt good and positive that I would put out a good performance. The weather was perfect, not too hot and not too cold. It was really nice to be reunited with athletes from Thailand and other familiar faces from Asia. The water temperature hovered around 24C….Wetsuit was optional but I chose not to wear a wetsuit but used my speed suit instead. That was the best decision I made of the day! I did not have any feet to draft as I made my way up the field and felt I should have started earlier to be able to swim with the front pack. I felt solid in the water, strong and good rhythm. . On to the bike, I felt rather strange…something was not quite there. I thought I would be stronger on the climb but I couldn’t seem to push as hard has I thought. On the downhill, I was really cold. There was a moment I thought I was going to throw up and faint. I tried to take an extra gel but not sure if that helped. It was very difficult to explain but I have never felt like this. By the time I hit the last flat 10km, I couldn’t get my body to warm up and get going again. After a really bad bike and feeling a bit ill, it was hard to keep my head in the fight for the 21km run. I really wanted to quit. At this point, I started to ask myself “what for?!” and “why suffer?” but I gritted my teeth and push on as with all I had for the day. It was a good reminder for me that the reason I choose this sport in the first place is it allows me to face my own worst enemy, which is myself not anyone else…. On the run I also couldn’t seem to push the intensity I could….my body didn’t respond like in Gdynia. I felt pretty flat and I thought some thing was strange . But 10km mark came much quicker than I thought, I suffered but made it to the finish line with all I had. I very proud I did not back down at any moment and did what I could on the day….. and that’s what matters! I have been pretty ill for the whole week after the race but now back on the mend. Enough said and head up towards the next race, Ironman 70.3 Chongming, China next month. Ironman 70.3 Chongming Past few months have been difficult dealing with a foot bone (3rd metatarsal) injury after my AG victory in Ironman 70.3 Taiwan back in March and I had to make some big decisions. However, I couldn’t be more happy to be back racing middle distance again with a solid result in a strong field at Ironman 70.3 Gdynia, Poland. It has been a while so now it’s time for some updates before heading into final weeks of Ironman 70.3 World Championship Nice preparation.
My first race after the injury was a sprint distance in 5150 Zurich on the 20th of July. I surprised myself by being one of the very first to come out of the water, then rode 36kph average on the bike and 22.03min for the 5km run. It was the strongest short race I ever put out! I knew my shape was coming back but yet sprint distance is not comparable to middle distance, especially with the running milage I have lost. With kind suggestion and encouragement from my coach Rafal, we decided to enter Ironman 70.3 Gdynia in Poland a few weeks after I started to running without pain. I had a really good training block leading up to 70.3 Gdynia, a bit of niggle in my left posterior tibialis from taking the last U-turn too fast in Zurich…. but apart from that everything was going smoothly. We were really lucky with perfect weather in Gdynia on the race day. The ocean was smooth with no current or waves…it was perfect! My wetsuit restricted my arms a bit as it was a bit too old but I felt very strong. I came out of the water in a good time and didn’t feel tired. On the bike, I felt great from the beginning to the end. Everything went according to plan. I was very happy with the power I had and how rode up the inclines. Downhills were a bit of a disappointment as I ran out of gear and didn’t have anymore momentum….. I couldn’t go any faster and lost a bit of time. The run was the most challenging part, confidence wise. I felt really good and fresh coming off the bike. I knew what to do, easy and simple… “give it all”. I started out hard trying my best to catch the girls in front and hung on to it as much as I could. The first 7-8km I felt really good but after that my energy dropped a bit and didn’t feel so good, I refused to slow down and really push through it. My body started to pick up again after a few kilometers and I finished really strong on the last lap. It was a very satisfying day as I gave it 110%…. there was nothing else I could have given. I put it all out there and I am proud of what I achieved. We have been working very hard to improve my bike strength and getting my running form back. The bike split showed a big improvement from where I was comparing to other strong girls in the field and of course….a personal best in Half-marathon and 70.3 run split of 1:42:44 hr was already a trophy in itself having been back running for only 8 weeks!! Coming 9th in my age-group among a strong European field was a big achievement and a perfect benchmark for Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nice, especially where most athletes were using this race as a final preparation for the big game in three weeks time! I really enjoyed my first trip to Poland. It was ashamed I didn’t have time to explore more of this lovely place but I’m sure this won’t be the last! ;) (check out the pics in Gallery) Life in the mountain, St Moritz Training camp I left my rehabilitation base in Bangkok, a.k.a “Home” in the middle of June. It was the perfect timing with the recovery of my foot. St.Moritz is a perfect place to get me motivated again. This place is filled with top athletes from around the world and I get to be with my coach and the team. There are a lot of trails with soft grounds so for me to start back running. We started to build up the milage, speed and strength slowly. I was very happy because I made a really good progress day by day and really could fall back in love again with running. I was really happy every time I lace up my shoes. It has been almost four years since I last had a fractured foot and almost completely forgot what how suck it felt. Since I have got here I didn’t have time to do much apart from train, eat and sleep. I train 2-3 times per day and everyday is different. Mainly, we have main swim sessions about 4 days per week in the morning and sometimes easier ones as a recovery in the afternoon. Cycling here is great as we are in the Alps so a lot of climbs could be made which is perfect for strength work. There is a running track next to where I stay and lots of rolling trails along the mountains with beautiful view. Into Ironman 70.3 World Championship Nice It’s only just less than 3 weeks to go until Nice. I am very glad to be back in good health and good shape. I got my confident back finding my form and my feet again after the hard work =D I’m very honoured to get a sponsored slot from Thailand Tri-League as the fastest Thai-Triathlete and a vice champion of Ironman 70.3 BangSaen, Thailand. This is a great opportunity to represent my country, Thailand and our Thai ladies in the world stage of Triathlon. I have one last training block to finish and I will be ready to put out my best game, racing in the against the best in the world. Ironman 70.3 Taiwan, Taitung I was confident going into this race, taking every opportunity over the past month after Bangsaen 70.3 to hammer myself down daily. I was now stronger and from how everything was going, I knew I was in a perfect shape. Race day: Feeling good this morning......familiar smiley faces from Thailand proved comforting at the swim start. Chinned up and walked towards the starting pen with "It's war!" mentality. After the gun, I whacked it hard from the first stroke but found myself in "not-so-ideal position" as I couldn't catch any feet and ending up leading the pack. Some faster swimmers caught up. We formed a 8-10 people pack after the turnaround but the leaders were pulling different ways. The pack ended up wasting time snaking left and right. I was upset, especially having to be in the wetsuit for a bit longer than I had to. I wasn't happy with my swim at all exiting the water. (But looking at my split after I felt that I should give myself more credit considered how it went and that wetsuit hasn't been my thing....) I managed to shake it off and got my head back in the right place after 15-20 minutes. Unsurprisingly, the body followed and settled into the rhythm. I felt good riding but again....but to be greeted with my three biggest bike nemesis, "Cross wind, Downhill and Motorbike"! (โอ้ว แม่เจ้า) Cross wind shook my front wheel left and right. I fought with all I had to held the bike down and was really relieved to get over the section. Downhill has always been my weakness. Motorbikes made me really uncomfortable after the accident a few years ago. At the end of the ride, my mind was more exhausted than my body fighting demons in my own head. Both swim and bike were disappointing. I felt that they didn't do me justice for the training I put in. I came here expecting a much faster day...."should I still fight since I won't get personal best anyway and the 3 leaders were faraway?", the worst little demon asked coming back to T2. T^T" With my feet back on the ground, I snapped out of it. "I'm not going to leave this battle field without my best fight". I started the chase to close the gap, ran my heart out, won my Age-group and made it up to 3rd overall AG crossing the finish line with a solid 1.43hr half marathon. The lessons from training camps were put into good use. And as always, it comes back to: ภูมิใจที่สามารถกัดฟันสู้จนถึงที่สุดอีกครั้ง แม้ว่าจะเริ่มไม่ค่อยสวยแต่ก็จบได้อย่างสวยงาม สุดท้ายแล้วก็กลับมาที่ประโยคที่ทีม Trisutto สอนนักกีฬาบ่อยๆ ซึ่งก็คือ "Being tough when you feel good means nothing. Being Hard Arse when you feel awful (not just physically and also mentally as I just learnt) is everything!" #trisutto (Now I understand why I was sent running 7km up and down the hill to the pool, swam 4km...then had to run back when I was so unfit after the crash!!! 5555) Bangkok Life... I have been back home in Bangkok since I got back from Australia. I thought it would be difficult to train here but actually I settled in really well. My training hasn't been affected at all and has been going great. This also give me an opportunity to spend more time with my family and friends. (As there are more to live than swim, bike, and run of course .) Having a great supporting network helps a lot, especially when I want to relax and rest my head from triathlon hype. Furthermore, there's a series of sprint triathlon races, "Tri Dash" near by Bangkok almost every month. I just tried it for the first time in March and really enjoyed it. This is a great opportunity to work on my weaknesses. I'm really looking forward to go back to do my second "dash" again this weekend! Tiger "It was an emotional day for me finishing 2nd overall in my home race, Ironman 70.3 Bangsaen 2019! " I did feel a lot of pressure coming into this race plus worries in my mind after I had a bike crash just about 50 days before while I was in a training camp in Australia. I was not as strong as I hoped racing this one but I have done everything possible to be in the best shape I could. Accidents do happen in life and that's out of my control. As Boss said: "Being shitty about something out of your control is lack of self discipline....." I toed the line with nothing but "110% mentality". It's my home game and I represent Thailand. This won't go down without all fight in me. Race day diary: We had a "washing machine" swim condition and mostly all against the current. I tried to find feet to follow but all the swimmers were scattered around going in different directions. It was really hard to sight for the buoys as the waves kept bringing us up and down, blocking the sight. Kept my rhythm and found Maria (the winner of the race) after the first turn around buoy and decided to stick with her. The current kept pushing us away from the rope line....we both fought hard to get out of the water as soon as possible. We came into T1 together before heading out to continue our battle on the land. I had a smooth ride with nutrition and hydration on the spot. (As I have learnt a tough lesson 2 weeks ago haha). I felt strong at the end of the ride and looking forward to the run. Not long after heading out of the T2, the first hill was ready to greet us as a warm up for more steeper ones coming. I struggled to get my legs turning going up and down. The first lap was tough as I couldn't get into my rhythm. It was getting hotter and hotter. I kept cool and stayed hydrated. I continued to run as hard as I could, felt a bit better on the second lap and by the third lap my legs came back to me. After a total of 12 hill reps, I made the last turn into the last km stretch towards the finish line. I felt really overwhelmed by a mixture of feelings. I wasn't sure how I really felt. Despite I wasn't able to catch the leader but I was super pleased with the day, knowing I had given it my all! And most importantly I won an awarded slot as the fastest Thai athlete to race in Ironman World Championship 70.3, Nice from Thailand Tri-League! และที่สำคัญยังได้รางวัลที่ 1 คนไทย จาก Thailand Tri-League เป็นสิทธิ์ไปแข่ง Ironman World Championship 70.3, Nice ที่ประเทศฝรั่งเศส "Story from the Land down Under" "เรื่องเล่าจากออสเตรเลีย" Hell of the West: What happened in Goondiwindi stayed in Goondiwindi..... but yes I learnt a hard lesson on the importance of hydration and not to repeat this mistake again! To sum it up, I dropped my bottle containing 500ml of electrolytes with the cage as well, just after 20km into the bike leg. Then another bottle cage came loose..... so I messed up my hydration. When I reached 60km mark on the bike, I was as dried as Goondiwindi dessert itself. Training camp and the crash: Starting off the camp the week after I finished my final race last year. I decided get back to training early as I could because I still had a lot of work to do. This would allow me to have more time to build up for 2019 season. I logged solid training hours for the first 4 weeks and was in a good form......until on the 4th of January where things turned up side down. We were riding from home to the criterium track at lunch time. I was behind the guys and we were just in front of the track. Something (later found a piece of wood) caught my front wheel and I wasn't expecting it. I lost control of the bike and hit the deck pretty hard. My left elbow took the blow. I felt a massive pain and thought I might have broken. There was blood everywhere. I was a bit relieved actually that the pain came from a big open wound rather than the bone. I had nasty road rashes on my leg, hip and shoulder but nothing more than losing skins. I was taken to the hospital by an ambulance and got 7 stitches in my elbow. Thank you the guys in the squad who took good care of me. Coaches, Robbie and Susie waited with me at the emergency and took me home. Thank you so much!! It was really frustrating as I needed to take my time off training. I couldn't swim for 10 days because of my stitches and my shoulder was sore from the crash. Cycling and running were less than optimum.....I felt so unfit. T^T My base bar of my bike was broken. Thank you to Robbie, P' Bump @Amorn bicycle and my parents who contributed to get my bike going again so I could get back on the wheels as soon as possible. Anyway, my bike and me made a good recovery. I managed to put out quality training during the rest of my time at the camp. To be continue....: That's the update from the past few months from me. อัพเดทจากที่ผ่านมาเมื่อสองสามเดือนก็ตามนี้นะคะ ^^ I'm very happy to have a solid start of 2019 season despite the unfortunate. I'm super motivated to get stronger and faster for the up coming races! What doesn't break me, makes me! What a rollercoaster year for me. There were so many downs (to hell.....first) and ups (to the sky....later)! The most disastrous start of the season I ever had........a bad form in BangSaen, two flat tires in Danang 70.3 plus a break down on the run, and everything that could have possibly gone wrong went "wrong" in my full Ironman debut in Subic Bay. I felt very upset and dishearten at first. Nothing was going my way despite all the hard work I put in. I tried my best to put them behind and reset my mentality before I headed off to join the summer training camp with the squad in St. Moritz later in June. In the mountain I have learnt a lot (as written in previous blogs) and met many amazing athletes. I was given positive attitudes to work with, enthusiastic and felt very motivated. I was reminded to focus on the bigger picture. Those races were just stepping stones. I kept up me head up, stuck with my training and raced really well on the second half of the year. I claimed my first win, personal records in both Olympic and middle distances, and two more Thai champion titles by the end of the season. The most important lesson was that I realized whether the races were "good" or "bad", they brought the same thing, "emotions". In order to do better and remain focused on the next one, I must not get clung up on my emotions....doesn't matter if they are positives or negatives. Good races were actually harder to deal with because I was "happy". It was great to celebrate but also important to keep it short (especially if the next one is coming soon) and move on, just like the disappointing ones. Any delays would hinder the long term progress. In summary, the DOWN was actually the key to my UP this year. I learnt to "let it go" and "focus on the present". It was definitely easier said than done! But once I got a hang of it, it helped me to race well for "7 times in a row"!! มันพูดง่ายกว่าทำค่ะ 55 แต่พอทำได้ ก็สามารถช่วยให้ณิแข่งได้ดีถึงเจ็ดครั้งติดต่อกันเลย ^^ (plus some kind reminder: "GET BACK TO TRAINING RIGHT NOW!) and etc... from boss to keep me focused of course =p). (และแน่นอนว่าได้โค้ชที่คอยเตือนและสั่งว่า "กลับไปซ้อมเดี๋ยวนี้" =P) I have improved a lot this year. The results said it all already....so now I'm just going to shut up and get back to training ;) Ps: I'm now back with the squad in Coolum, Australia and will be back in Thailand in February for Ironman 70.3 BangSaen, Thailand. =) ตอนนี้กลับมาเก็บตัวซ้อมกับทีมที่เมืองคูลัม ประเทศออสเตรเลีย เจอกันปีหน้าที่บางแสนค่ะ ^^ Thank you all my sponsors and my supporters for another amazing year! After a super hectic schedule I finally have time to write race reports from Laguna Phuket Triathlon and Sattahip triathlon as promised! ^^ Both of them are pretty epic! Battle for the Thai-elite win at Toyota Sattahip Triathlon, the last race of 2018 It's always great to start the day with a good swim. This was the strongest swim I ever had. I surprised myself with my position in the pack and people I could swim with. Coming into T1, I heard the announcer said that I was 6 mins behind the leader (in the Thai field). I really had some work to do. On the bike, I am not good at downhills and sharp turns so I did what I could at that point and managed to make up some minutes. When I came into T2, the leader girl just left. There was no time for socks today. I decided to go with my gut despite knowing it was going to be a real suffer feast, especially on this very hot day. Pushing like a maniac from the start of the run, hoping to get a glimpse of the leader as soon as possible. I trusted my training and I knew I was mentally strong enough to make it happened (ie hang on =p). The effort was worth it. I took the lead just after the first climb on the downhill and continued to run as hard as I could. At the start of the second lap, I felt absolutely sh*t. Took a few sip of cola at the aid station before the hill and thought this should be alright. I felt much better and was climbing well. But at the top of the hill, it became a great battle between the mind and the body. My tank had completely run out and even the downhill became a real struggle. I had 2 more km to go and fought with everything I had left in my system to hang on. Finally, there came a sign saying "400m to finish"....then 200m. I saw the finish line about 100m away and dashed for it....after I grabbed the tape, everything was a blur and I was on the floor. I was very grateful to see familiar faces rushing in to see if I was ok after I reopened my eyes. I remembered seeing the up side down face of my partner in crime and the champion of the day, Parys Edwards and mumbled "I won..." (for the Thais). (รุ่นคนไทย) This race had challenged me in all possible aspects. One of those days in my life I could look back and honestly say I am proud of what I have done. Couldn't ask for a better race to finish off the season of 2018!! การแข่งขั้นครั้งนี้ท้าทายณิในทุกๆด้าน เป็นวันหนึ่งในชีวิตที่สามารถมองกลับไปและพูดได้เต็มปากว่าภูมิใจกับสิ่งที่ได้ทำ เป็นการจบฤดูการของปี 2018 ที่ดีที่สุดเลย ^^ I would like to say thank you P'Ben, P Tum and Thailand Tri-League team for amazing hospitality and a warm welcome. I always feel like home racing with http://www.thailandtrileague.com ! One of the best part of the weekend was getting to spend time (and have an almost-slumber party...well it's race weekend lol) with Parys Edwards, who's always bring smiles and positivities to my life. And we still stick by out rule, "No Bad Attitudes and Bad Coffee allowed"..... but also this time we both learnt that "Bad coffee is better than no coffee at all!" xD We shall never forget Bodium at the same time ever again! Defending Thai Champion title at Laguna Phuket Triathlon I felt some pressure racing LPT this year with 3rd time Thai Champion title on the stake. The race week was emotionally difficult so I kept it quiet so I could concentrate on my own race and did what I needed to do. With a kind reminder of my big sis, Pie I finally came to peace knowing that I would really on be racing against myself at the end of the day. I made rookie mistakes in the swim by not choosing a good starting position and wiggled.....a lot! I tried to keep it as straight and close to the buoys as possible. But somehow the more I tried the more out of the line I got. It was really one of those days....... T^T My bike plan was to be conservative and "play it safe". I held back a gear (or two) as I knew how much the Naithon hills at the end could tax the legs. Also I didn't feel too great climbing during the training ride on Wednesday (plus ripped off my dropout with wrong shifting) so I thought it would be best not to risk it. The patience paid off when I started running. My legs were with me and I could push the pace from the beginning. I took the lead in the Thai field after 3km and never looked back. I continued to run as hard as I could. Being in the lead is never a permission to slow down because I could never be satisfied finishing without giving it my all. My brain started to shut down from the fight with the heat and the effort. I kept my head up and focused on the aid station next to the 3-km sign post. I didn't see the arrow on the ground and ran through the cone in the wrong direction. Luckily one of the guys yelled so I could run back. A bit upsetting losing an unnecessary minute there but I knew nothing could be done apart from just keep running. I couldn't be more happy to cross the finish line and successfully defended my title for the second time with the best performance I could have on the day! ดีใจมากๆที่สามารถคว้าแชมป์คนไทยได้เป็นปีที่สามติดต่อกันค่ะ ^^ Reflecting on the race, I think I played it really well. I was able to put my emotions aside and didn't let the pressure altered the plan. As a result, I had my weapon ready when I needed it and used it to my best ability too. ^^ เมื่อมองย้อนกลับไปณิคิดว่าณิทำได้ดี โดยเฉพาะการควบคุมอารมณ์และจัดการกับความกดดัน ทำตามแผนที่วางไว้ ทำให้สามารถเก็บอาวุธเด็ดไว้ใช้ได้ในเวลาที่เหมาะสมที่สุด และคว้าชัยชนะมาได้ค่ะ ^^ Collection of moments from the two races <3 It has been tough, rather overwhelming but a also wonderful month. I'm glad to see the results of my hard work starting to pay off. Let's talk through Ironman 70.3 Chongming first as it's still fresh in my mind and then a recap from a victory at Pattana Triathlon. Personal Best, Podium Finish and New Thailand's 70.3 Record in Chongming I came out of Pattana Triathlon very rough, actually the worst I ever felt finishing a middle distance. I was totally destroyed for three days but boss encouraged (made/insisted/forced) me to train through the fatigue. I couldn't manage to do much at all, just train, eat and sleep....(I mean going right back into bed even after morning swims!). I felt pretty terrible almost all the time that I wasn't training. After 10 days, I fully recovered just in time before the race and felt even stronger! I was confident going into this race, knowing I was in the best shape of my life. I'm usually not very good in a wetsuit but finally we started to get along (thanks to Pb/Pad/Band =p ). After a water fight and some wrestling around the buoys, I happily made my way out of the swim. Very glad I finally had a decent swim in a wetsuit!! I got on to the bike feeling great and stronger than in Pattana. I knew it was definitely "the day" but I told myself not to be "greedy", pace this well and stick to the nutrition plan. The wind picked up a bit on the second lap but I held steady...easing off last couple of km getting ready to run. And that was my PB 70.3 bike split, 2.38hr....can't complain! Started the run moderately and the rhythm came to me very quickly. Cool weather helped a lot and I really appreciated for once my race was not "a feel like 40C" with 100% humidity! I pushed harder and felt stronger at the same time. It was a 3-lap running course so I had no idea of my position, nor that mattered....I needed to give it my all then I can be satisfied. Last 3km were really tough... I felt like falling apart and a bit dizzy. I hung on with my best effort and refused to slow down as much as I could. I gritted my teeth, sipped some cola and just keep running. Very pleased to make 1.43hr for the half marathon. To find out later that I managed to close the 10-min gap down to less than 2 mins from the second place!! (No wonder I found many messages on my FB and mom's phone, thank you for the support and glad I entertained you guys!! My Thaigery effort was well worth it as it put me on a podium finishing 3rd in my age-group, claiming my personal best 70.3 time and resetting Thailand's middle record once again! It was definitely a breakthrough race for me, putting a nice ending to long course-racing this season. Claiming my first win at Pattana Long Distance Triathlon The cancellation of my scheduled race in Chongqing was very disappointing. I was in a really good shape and couldn't be more ready to race. However, I put that behind and kept training hard as I always do. The preparation couldn't be more perfect. At the beginning of race week I was really tired but felt really good on Saturday before the race. I had a solid swim and felt strong in the water. By the first turnaround buoy, I made my way up to the front pack with the boys and didn't have to force the pace. Unfortunately, I was too excited and failed to concentrate when the lads increased the pace (sorry Boss and Susie... I didn't tell you this =p ). It was a bit too late when I realized....but anyway =p วันนี้ว่ายได้ดีมาก รู้สึกว่าแรงดี พอถึงทุ่นกลับตัวทุนแรกก็ขึ้นไปทันกับกลุ่มนำ แต่ว่ามัวแต่ดีใจเลยไม่ได้ตั้งใจดูให้ดีว่าเขาเร่งความเร็วกัน พอรู้ตัวอีกทีก็สายไปแล้ววววววว =P Leading my way out of the swim and on to the bike, I was riding pretty much all alone. It was challenging but I concentrated on pacing myself (hard but not over-killing it) and made sure I got my nutrition right. Having the lead motorbike with me for the first time was quite an experience!! Big shout out to the organizer for the road closure and bike course marshaling/sign-posting. 99.9% traffic free and perfectly safe. Definitely one of the best I have ridden so far!! It was extremely hot and humid when I got down to the run, especially on the golf course. There were also no flat lands....either rolling up and down or going through the trails. At the beginning of the run, I started to overheat, feeling my heart-rate shot up very quickly after a few steps. I stayed calm, knowing from the past experiences that panicking or getting upset would just worsen the situation. The main priority of the first 5km was dedicated to cooling down. After lots of ice, sponges and drinks, I recovered and started to run well. Just to be greeted with more difficult terrains through the trails and some floods. It was a survival mission. I utilized the aid stations as much as I could and managed to stay strong, strong enough to picked up the pace on the last 5km overtaking two guys and finished within the top 10 of the men's field. I was very happy to take the win for the first time. However, that was not as important as learning the satisfaction of giving it my all...... regardless of how much lead I had or what position I was in. I still kept pushing until I had nothing left in my system and I can be proud of that. It has been difficult and hectic staying in Bangkok, getting up before 5am everyday to fight the traffic and juggling other obligations in life. But I kept my head down and got the job done to my best ability. It was lovely to catch up with my sponsors, friends and family but I also learnt (and needed) to protect my recovery time at the same time. I really appreciate everyone for understanding and sympathize with me for being a zombie and/or pain in the As* for pretty much half (or most...depends how often you meet me I'm supposed....) of the time (and even worse between the two races) for the past month. I'm now well recovered, back in full gas training and very much looking forward to defend "Thai-champion" title for the second time in 3 weeks at Laguna Phuket Triathlon and finish my season at Toyota Sattahip Triathlon! It's now time for a wrap-up of my summer training camp and a reflection on what I have learnt. The report from two previous races and a bit about traveling around the French part are at the end. Wrapping up Training the camp and great lessons from Boss It has been a wonderful experience having an opportunity to train with world-class professional athletes here in St. Moritz with Trisutto squad. This is very much an eye-opener to the real triathlon world for me coming from the region where the sports are not as developed. Honestly, it has been difficult from times to times, getting smashed and be one of the weakest in the squad. It's not something I'm used to in Thailand or Asia. However, Brett and the team gave me a very good approach and positive attitudes to work with. This really motivates me to keep working hard to improve myself everyday and always! Brett has been telling us (again and again), "there is no short cut to the top". If you want to get up to the top floor and there is no lift, the only way is the stairs. You need to work your way up from the first floor, "step by step". If you only start climbing, do not compare the your current height to those who've climbed before you, but concentrate and be satisfied with your own progress. (Similar to the academic side of life, you can't make a kindergarten pass a university exam!) I'm very much new to the sport so "patience", "persistence" and "discipline" are the keys! Brett taught us here that there are more important things than swim, bike and run that make a successful athlete and a person. Those are the attitudes of how you approach your daily life, "concentrate on NOW, not the future", "being grateful" and so much more. I have never thought I'm much of a "mountain" person, but being here for the past almost three months has changed my mind completely. I love all the hills (kind of...yes well all know). The Apline climbs are unforgettable. The rivers and the lakes are so beautiful and very soothing. I'm going to miss this place very much. However, it has been a long way from my family, friends and home. It's time to head back and finish the latter half of the season to my best ability. Thank you so much everyone in the squad for a great time and an awesome summer. Until next time!!! St. Moritz, Home of Triathlon The weekend after 5150 Zurich was St. Moritz "Home of Triathlon weekend". The kid races were on Saturday. I volunteered and got a spot in the transition where I helped the youngsters getting changed and finding the bikes (but impressively, most of them are better than me haha!). I had a really good time and met really nice people. My race was on Sunday morning. I haven't done a "sprint" distance in three years but as boss said it was a training race....so I didn't worry too much. Walking down to the swim-start with Kerry, we did a bit of a warm-up in the lake and glad it was not too cold, 16C! Wetsuit I'm usually not very good in a wetsuit. I have been practicing for a while and finally had a good swim in it. There was no time to think on a bike when it's only 20km, only rode as hard as I could. The run was a tough one going up the hilly trail behind the lake. I was just bit behind a girl I trained with leaving T2. I started the run at a suicidal pace and passed her a few km into the run. I was hanging to my dear life for the rest of the course and it came down to a sprint finish. I almost passed out crossing the finish line but managed to held on to my lead, finishing 3rd on Promi podium. Triathlon de Lausanne It was a long trip from St. Moritz, almost six hours by train with two changes. It was really hot there when I arrived in Friday afternoon. I got to watch ITU Triathlon World Cup and cheered for Trisutto athletes on Saturday, while squeezing in race prep of course...... After an early night and a good sleep, I woke up feeling fresh on Sunday. At the transition, the official announced that the lake was too warm for a wetsuit swim. I was very happy with that. Another good swim I had, managed to caught perfect feet. The bike course was a lot more technical and hilly than it looked on the map. I did my best to keep my rhythm and rode as best as I could. Ended up with a good bike split still! The cycling taxed me more than I thought. My legs were heavy at the beginning of the run and I felt pretty rough. I tried to relax and get the rhythm going. After a surprised left turn, I was presented with the first steepest hill and two more after, making three hills in total in one lap. It was painful but I gritted my teeth and gut it out. The second lap felt a lot better. I got the flow going and finished strong. Thank you coach Susie for the support on the course! I was very happy with my result because I gave it my all for the day. I had solid splits in all three, which were bench marks that I have improved a lot over the past year. And top 13 overall here in Switzerland....I would take it any day !!! พอใจกับผลการแข่งขันค่ะ เพราะได้ทำดีที่สุดแล้ว มีการพัฒนาการได้ดีในปีที่ผ่านมา และได้ลำดับที่13จากทั้งหมดที่ประเทศนี้ก็ถือว่าดีแล้ว เพราะคนที่นี่โหดมากๆ :P Moral of the story (บทเรียนจากการแข่งขันครั้งนี้): "Never trust the Swiss when they said it's FLAT..", said boss. He's always right! After the race, I spent a bit of time exploring the French part, including Lausanne itself, Vevey and Château de Chillon.* พอแข่งเสร็จแล้วก็ไปเที่ยวด้านฝรั่งเศส โลซาน วีเวย์ และ ปราสาทริมทะเลสาบ Chillon (ดูได้ด้านล่างสุด*) *see the additional "Travel" section at the end for the King Rama9/Thai cultural visit plus extras ;) Travel : Lausanne, Vevey and Chateau Chillon I wish I had a bit more time in Lausanne but I managed to covered the places I am interested in. I will start off with the King Rama9 related/ Thai cultural places as Lausanne is where our kings grew up and spent their childhood with Somdej Ya. The "Thai Pavilion" is located not too far from Olympic museum. It was built as a gift to the City of Lausanne from His Majesty the King of Thailand in 2005 to mark the 60th anniversary of the accession to the throne of H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Switzerland. With a guidance from google map and Pantip, I managed to find "Villa Wattana" on walking up the hill in a small street. The Olympic museum was interesting. There are good collections of gears from the Olympians around the world. I'm so proud for Thailand as I have found a suit from .... displayed there! Also what I really liked was a collection of speeches and stories from the olympians. They were worth listening as they also made me realized being true champions is not about the medals. If you like arts, "Collection de l'art brut" is definitely worth the visit. It has very unique collections from people who never planned to be artists and their tragic life stories/mental illnesses. Its concept is very much different from typical art museums in other places. I spent a lot more time than I thought there as all the pieces were very meaningful. Bellerive-Plage is the perfect place to chill out in the summer with access to the lake, swimming pools and changing rooms. I went there to swim, lied in the sun and had a sunset picnic after the race. The atmosphere was great there in a nice summer day. The lake was warm so I went swimming with my camera and captured some fish in the water. On the next day, I took a train to Vevey, a small town of Charlie Chaplin, Nestle and beautiful vineyards. The transportation was very easy as I could take tram/bus every where. The museum "Chaplin's World" was really worth visiting. Then I went to see the head office of Nestle...pretty impressive building with a view. Would be nice to work there! Next stop was Nestle Museum. A bit disappointed as it was smaller than I thought but free Kitkat made up for it. Here you can find all products of Nestle in the past and the history of how the company was started. I was impressed that they have a Thai ice-cream van there...with Thai writing and prices!!! It's a must to visit the statue of Charlie Chaplin and the biggest "Fork" in the world by the lake. Then I had a little walk in the old town before heading to Chateau Chillon. I went pass Montreux, a small famous beautiful town for summer holiday. After checking out the castle, I took the train back to Lausanne. It was a very beautiful ride as I could see the vineyards and looked across the lake to see border of France. 5150 Zurich Triathlon I was only told to sign up for 5150 Zurich only a few weeks ago. I had absolutely no expectation on how I was going to do in the race. I thought of it as a training day to whack it out as hard as I could....only to surprise myself with an OD personal best time and had the run of my life! I was very happy about this. The water was choppy as we had a bit of thunderstorm before the race. That wasn't much of a problem because my stroke is equally as choppy. I found perfect feet to follow and kept the rhythm going. On to the bike and found my legs quickly....they were definitely 100% with me today. It was a 3-lap bike course with the "Heart-Break hill" in the middle" of which I absolutely loved. I was having a really good day on the bike, hammering away. It started to drizzle so I was extremely cautious on the way down. Came back to T2 and ready to run. I shot off as hard as I could and held on to my life until the end. I saw briefly the time of the day then I knew I was very close to 2.30hr .I gave it all and sprinted the last stretch home, coming just 55 second over 2 hours and 30 minutes. Only to find out later I had one of the best runs in my life, 45.35 mins 10km off-bike and just one place away from the podium, coming 4th in my age group. I couldn't be more happy with the result. Hard work pays off! Thank you coach Susie, Robbie and Els for supporting me on the course. Really kept me going. Thank you Imke for taking care of me, being my athlete-sitter and letting me camp at DT Swiss booth for the weekend! Mountain Life at St. Moritz training camp (ชีวิตบนดอย....) It has been five weeks already in the mountain of Switzerland, St. Moritz. I have been very lucky with the weather, lots of sunshine and only few rainy days. The first two weeks were tough adjusting to the altitude, new environment and getting into the routine. I was more tired than usual with the thin air and got a little bit home sick. The training gets tougher with bosses started to push me harder and give me more work to do. This keeps me busy and I am really enjoying it so I don't miss home too much anymore. Equally as important, I have met lots of lovely people and made new friends here. It has been a privilege and a life-time opportunity to train with and getting to know the best athletes in the world. I am very inspired and motivated to do my very best to be the best I can be. I have learnt a lot and made a good progress so far.... but still much more work to be done so... I'm gonna shut up now and go ride up the mountain. Onwards and upwards, Cheerios!
