Sorry everyone who has been following my blog for not updating for quite a while. There was a lot going on so I will just drop you a quick summary and what's coming up next. Things haven't been going well for my last two races. Unfortunately, they were those things I didn't really have much of a control of. Before anything else, I would like to say thank you very much to my friends, family, sponsors and everyone for all kind messages and good vibes. After coming back from Australia, I successfully defended my Thai-Elite title at Toyota Bangsaen Triathlon, the Master. Backing this up with a solid result and in Davao 70.3, strong race with a podium finish coming 2nd in my age-group. As May approached, I was really confident and was in the best shape of my life after a good build up towards my first Ironman Subic Bay in June. We have Ironman 70.3 Danang 3 weeks before to check-in and I was super ready for it. In Danang, I got though a bumpy swim with no hassles but that left me a bit sea-sick on the bike. I remained super patient and waited for it to settle, then my power came right back after 35km. I was picking up the pace and started to hammer my way back through the course. Then I hear a "Clang!" and a "Bang!" at about 50km...my back wheel went over a metal and I had a big cut (that my little finger could go through) in my tyre. Tried to fixed it as quickly as possible by putting my used gel packet over it. My tyre came back up, I got back riding but it went flat again the next 5 km. After another attempt (and trying to convince the mechanic that I could fix this!), by putting 2 gel packets together and seal it... I got going again. Have already lost my lead and a lot of time. The combination of trying to get back and not knowing how long my tyre would last, I ended up riding too hard and dehydrated (forgot about nutrition)...and the run didn't end too well. Moving on from that, I got back into training and went into Ironman Subic Bay in the best shape of my life....but unfortunately the day didn't turn out so well for me. Did not feel great on the bike and as we all know the, condition didn't help! Took it calm and steady to get through the bike safely....actually felt ok at the start of the run until I started to throw up with abdominal muscle cramps. Cut the long story short, it didn't stop and I could not keep anything down. Ended up dehydrated and almost fainted mid-way through the run. The volunteers called the ambulance and the doctor didn't let me continue. It's frustrating but not worth getting frustrated about. It's more important for me to focus on the big picture and appreciate all the improvements I have made in training....and of course there are plenty more races to come!! It was lovely to spend the past two weeks at home, being pampered by plenty of love and support from my family, friends and sponsors. But it's now time to TTFU.....on my way to training camp with Boss in St. Moritz. Keep smiling, onwards and upwards. Cheerios.

Time flies when you are having fun. Sadly, the training camp has come to an end (just for now). I’m really still enjoying it here but also very happy to be going home to my family, friends and food! เวลาเจ็ดอาทิตย์ผ่านไปเร็วมากเลย กำลังสนุกกับการฝึกซ้อมที่นี่แต่ก็ถึงเวลากลับบ้านแล้ว แอบเศร้านิดหน่อย แต่ก็ดีใจมากที่จะได้กลับบ้าน คิดถึงคุณพ่อคุณแม่ เพื่อนๆ และอาหารอร่อยๆบ้านเรา =P Let’s start from the first race of the year, “Hell of the West” at Goondiwindi. มาเริ่มเล่ากันจากการแข่งขันรายการแรกของปีที่ “นรกแห่งตะวันตก” (แปลแบบตรงๆ 5555) In December last year, I was suggested ( / insisted) that I signed up for this since I was going to be in Australia anyway. It would be a good training race to get a taste of the land down under. I wasn’t too confident at first as it was very early in the season (I would be back in training for just 1 month!) to do a middle distance (2k/80k/20k) but I did go for it anyway. Goondiwindi is a very small town, approximately 5 hour drive away. Robbie drove us (Nina and me racing, and Susie) on Saturday morning. Got there around 2pm, had enough time to check in to our hotel, registered, did a quick swim and attended race briefing. The race started super early and we got up at 3am in the morning. It was supposed to be hot but this year was colder than we expected. Before the swim start I was really cold but the water temperature was warm enough so I was glad when I got in the river for the swim start. The gun went off at 5.15am. It was still pretty dark and difficult to sight. I went hard from the beginning and was surprised I could held on to the front group of Aussie ladies. This made things easier as we all wore a pink hat so I had couple of them to look for. We were in a close pack after the turnaround point and I got my goggles whacked out of my eyes. I had no choice but to stop quickly and fixed it, costing me a big gap to the girl in front. I was gutted but kept my head down and swam hard. Not so long after I realized I had come to the swim exit……to my surprise as I didn’t think it was that long at all. The run to the transition was quite long but I felt good coming out of the water. I ran fast to make up some good time! Hopped on to the bike feeling a bit intimidated by everyone else’s bike as I had my heavy 3000baht training wheels on. Gave it my best shot riding hard, pacing myself and paid attention to nutrition at the same time . Things got tough on the way back with a strong head wind. Glad to make it back to the ground. I had no expectation about this run at all so early in the season and thought I would just whack it hard and gave it by best. I was pretty shocked to find out later I did 1.40hr for 20km with one toilet stop. ในที่สุดก็กลับลงมาวิ่ง ตอนแรกไม่ได้หวังอะไรมากเพราะว่าเพิ่งเริ่มซ้อมมาได้ไม่นานมาก แต่ก็ลองพยายามวิ่งให้ดีที่สุด พอตอนแข่งเสร็จโค้ชมากบอกว่า เห้ยๆ วิ่งดี 1.40ชม 20กิโล (รวมเข้าห้องน้ำด้วย) I was very pleased with the race as it gave me a confidence to start the season strong with only a month back in full training. Also I got to go on a road trip, see new places and had an Aussie experience. Had a bit of a sore throat developed after the race on Tuesday which left me feeling under the weather for quite a few days. But still very happy to put out the fastest 5km Park Run to finish off the training camp on Saturday despite not feeling well. พอกลับมาสองวันก็ไม่ค่อยสบายเลย เจ็บคอและเป็นหวัด รู้สึกค่อนข้างแย่พอสมควรทั้งอาทิตย์เลย แต่วันเสาร์เป็นวันสุดท้ายที่จะได้วิ่ง Park Run สำหรับทริปนี้ โค้ชบอกว่าไม่เป็นไรนะ ไม่ต้องจัดหนักมากก็ได้ เอาสนุกๆพอ แต่ว่าก็ซัดไปอย่างแรง ได้สถิติดีที่สุดสำหรับPark Runเลย (แต่ตอนวิ่งนี่รู้สึกแย่มาก 555) My training here has been going very well and I’m very happy with the progress I have made here at the camp. It’s great to start the season with a solid build up. I’m very much looking forward to see what I can achieve in 2018! Thank you to coach Susie and Robbie! You guys have been superb and took care of me really well. Thank you to boys and girls in the squad, it has been fun and very inspiring getting to train with with you rockets =D It has already been four weeks since I arrived in Sunshine Coast of the land down under. Time flies when you are having fun and also training really hard. I have learnt a lot since I got here and got new challenges thrown at me everyday. They are not only physically hard sessions I have never attempted but also mentality, “self-discipline” and “self-control”. Admittedly, it wasn’t easy settling in during the first week of not being familiar with the new environment. I came to realized how spoiled and easy my life has been in Thailand, driving everywhere and people to help out with everything! Everyday here I commute on Lucky27, my buddy for the trip and the coastal roads are no flats but rolling up and down. At first I was just tired thinking I have to ride to sessions which sometimes 5-6km away (or more/less) from home. For example, I rode to our running session of “hill repeats”, I know it wasn’t very far but on the way back to my place I have to ride back up the hill either! My legs would be burning and grilling then! Thought I have always been “Morning person” but this is another level! I was told to be at the pool by 6.20am and thought “wow! that’s super early”. Then after a week I realized that’s very late! Now I usually get up around 4.00-4.30am, and it’s not unusual to be out of the door before 5.30am! Most of the time I was only told where and what time to turn up in the morning and found out what sessions I needed to do next on the day after I finish the previous session. At first I found “not knowing in advance” very challenging because I’m obsessed with being in control but now I’m getting used to it. 55” Reflection of things I have learnt from the camp so fat สิ่งต่างๆที่ณิได้เรียนรู้จากประสบการณ์ที่ค่ายที่ผ่านมาค่ะ ^^ - Respect my own training and my own pace. Everyone has different overall program/weakness/strength to work on. (Despite we train in groups sometimes, we never go head to head and race in training… always give each other space and do not try to keep up.) - เคารพในการฝึกซ้อมและเพสของตนเอง ทุกคนมีโปรแกรมที่ไม่เหมือนกัน ต่างคนก็มีจุดอ่อนจุดแข็ง ของตนเอง (ที่นี่ถึงแม้จะซ้อมกันเป็นกลุ่มในบางที จะไม่มีการ Head to Head กัน ทุกคนมีพื้นที่เป็นขอตัวเอง ไม่ใช่มาวิ่ง ปั่นแข่งกันตอนซ้อม) - “Self control”….do easy things “REAL” easy and “Smack it out” on key sessions - รู้จักความคุมและมีวินัยในตัวเอง รู้ว่าเมื่อไหร่ควรหนัก เมื่อไหร่ควรเบา ไม่ใช่อัดๆไปทุกครั้งที่ซ้อม - How to listen to and pick up cues from my body……not relying on toys - ฟังและสังเกตุสัญญานจากร่างกายตัวเอง ไม่ใช่ดูแต่dataและเทคโนโลยี - It's perfectly normal to be tired and have less fast days…. just Be the “Best You Can Be Everyday”, give it your very best in training and be satisfied about it. - มีวันที่เหนื่อย และล้า เวลาอาจจะช้ากว่าวันอื่นก็ไม่เป็นไร ทำให้ดีที่สุดในวันนี้และปัจจุบันก็พอ - To clean my bike often!….“Fast bike is a clean bike” - ล้างยานบ่อยๆ.... 5555 Here are some cool/funny stories from my daily dairy (which I try to write up everyday to get the most out of experience) just so you guys can get a glimpse of what my daily life is like for the past month. 02/01/18 Started swimming at 6.00am, short and sharp set plus learning Tri-Medley. Rode home by 7.45am and was told to be ready and to arrive at Trisutto HQ at 9.00am for a brick session. วันนี้เริ่มว่ายน้ำหกโมงเช้า เรียนทักษะใหม่แล้วก็เป็นคอร์ดที่ใช้Paddle ขี่จักรยานกลับถึงบ้าน 7.45 ได้พักประมาณหนึ่งชั่วโมงแล้วโค้ชก็เรียกออกไปซ้อมปั่นกับวิ่งต่อเก้าโมงเช้า (คือต้องไปถึงบ้านเขาเวลานี้) After the first hill, I started to descent happily but just remembered I forgot my running shoes! OMG! Texted Susie quickly that I’d be a bit late….had do do the climb again well…twice! Got there pretty tired, then did some intervals on the bike and rode back to do 40mins run off the bike. It was mid-day and super hot. My first brick run after the race in October and my legs were super heavy….but survived the day. 08/01/18 By 8.45am I had 10km in my legs, breakfast and one nap already!! Did an interval run early (5.40am) and got some rest before swimming at 10am. Today was a big set of over 4km swim! It was a long one and needed a lot of concentration. Felt a bit flat in the pool but got it done as best as I could. Came back home, had lunch and passed out on the couch….. Two cycles of “Train \> Eat \> Sleep” done by lunch time already! (ซ้อม > กิน > นอน ) สองรอบแล้วภายในเที่ยงวันนี้ 555 นั่งพักจนถึงช่วงเย็นๆ พอพระอาทิตย์เริ่มตกดิน แดดเริ่มร่ม ร้อนน้อยหน่อยก็ออกไปวิ่งเย็นอีกรอบนึง 15นาทีแรกนี่เหนื่อยสุดๆแต่รู้สึกดีขึ้นเรื่อยๆ วิ่งชมวิวไป ^^ I was super smashed so just rest and watched Netflix until 6pm then headed out for second run of the day. Tired to start with but after 15mins felt very refreshing. The sunset with sea view was really nice….perfect way to end the day! 14/01/18 So a big day today! Leaving home just after 5am, riding to HQ where we gathered to ride down to the part of 70.3WC course in Mooloolaba to do a brick training, which took about 45mins to cycle from Mt. Coolum. The first part of the loop was a very steep hill, my legs were still sore from the hill repeat yesterday but gritted my teeth and just rode! I did two laps of the 9km loop, hence twice this climb and then ran off the bike back in opposite direction. I did feel very good on the run this morning, got my rhythm quickly and could stayed relaxed. My legs weren’t as heavy as I thought they would be. The course was rolling with some steady inclines that would get to you without you realizing it. Then suddenly the legs were burning! 55 It was ridiculous to think back of myself asking “How hard do I have to run?” and everyone said “you will know it once you are on the course”!…..well I did actually find out then! The hills did the job with no further clarification needed. 19/01/18 Yes, when you are told “it’s going to be a big swim”…they meant it! I was rather shocked to be greeted with 100x50m set when Susie handed out the breakfast menu at the pool!!! I had to tried my best to hang on to Els's feet as we jumped in and whacked it out. I was on a “Survival mode” and thought I felt like dying after 20… and there were still 80 more to go. But actually it turned out great because I couldn’t felt any worse and everything was numb! 5555 Time flies and it was over before I knew it! I was actually having a lot of fun doing that to be honest….despite struggling to wash my hair after! I miss home from times to times, especially when I’m tired and resting from the workouts. But honestly, I’m having absolutely a blast and the best training so far since I ever known running and triathlon. Thank you to coach Susie and Robbie for taking super good care of me and also the squad, Els, Max and Felix for making lovely training environment and keeping the spirit up! Ok, enough talking and time to get back to work. Three weeks left to go and will put up another update soon =D ขอตัวไปซ้อมต่อก่อนนะคะ ตอนนี้ก็เหลืออีกสามอาทิตย์ค่ะ ไว้จะมาเล่าต่อ ^^ Recovery and the Lead-up: I felt fine for the first couple of days after IM 70.3 Thailand. But guess the stress on the body caught up with me by the end of the week. All the swim sessions were great but on Friday my bike session turned out to be an hour of "no" power instead. Then on Saturday, my 12km run felt like a marathon, I could neither hold 6.0min/km average or pick up the pace. I listened to my body, stop pushing hard and slow down. On Sunday I rode at relaxing pace, perfect opportunity to catch up with my long lost riding buddy, Adam before I left. By Monday the run still didn't feet too good...a little bit better but legs still heavy. I was a little bit concern but accepted that it was what it was.... I have been pushing very hard for two weeks and now I could only do my best to finish the year as strong as I could. Traveling and Racing: We left Phuket by Friday lunch time and arrived at super lovely hotel in the evening...it has been so much fun traveling with Parys Edwards for the past almost 2 months (going to miss you and Paleo bread loads! x). Pretty tired from the traveling but still managed to unpack my bike so I could go for a small ride in the morning. Lucky27 got picked up from the hotel to the race venue at lunch time. Then in the afternoon I had a chance to see the bike course (thanks for the ride =D ) before heading to the registration and check-in. Race plan conversation with boss >> Me: I would like to do a 40km TT on a bike and will run all out..... Boss: Build it control first 5km (bike)....use first km to find rhythm (run). Then. Boom. Made a pack with Parys....trying to hang on to her feet as far as I could. Got to about second buoy and the gap start to open up a bit. I tried my very best but couldn't hang on. Still the swim was very good for me, even better than the last two races. Hopped on a bike...ok I didn't have the power I had or felt as good...pushed as hard as I could but didn't seem like Lucky27 was moving as fast as he should be. Getting chase out of the transition but I remembered what my coach said. I was very tempted to just run out super hard but very glad that I could stick to the plan under pressure. I went out steady, picked it up and finished as strong as I could. Obviously I made the right decision...... I honestly was very relieved that I could put out those splits looking back at the last weekend (and the past month =p). I gave it my all and happy to finish as a second Thai Elite on the day! Thai Elite After the race, I got a chance to trot about and see Buddha Mountain a closer look (not from flashing by on a bike). It was also great getting to spend some times relaxing walking by the beach and chilling by the pier.....just to reflect on things before I left to Bangkok on Monday morning. Reflection of 2017: "I'm super happy to finish off this season healthy, still fully motivated (of which boss insisted I take it easy for a bit now =p) and have remained "injury-free" throughout the year." And for the first year for a while that I have had no niggles/running related injuries that interrupted my running so finally my training is now consistent. I wanted to quit after these last few years of fighting all the pain but now I love it again and got my passion back, definitely worth the fight! I have made the best decision to change my training in the beginning of the year. It was hard at the beginning to get used to the new program, new coach, new sessions, new stoke and new mentality .....very challenging but I stuck with it and hard work is starting to pay off now. It has been very fortunate getting to work with one of the world's greatest coaches, Brett Sutton and his team after I met them in Switzerland in June. That was a very much life changing trip for me! The main and best thing I have learnt this year (which of course resulted in personal bests and not getting injured so far.... is to "SLOW DOWN"! I was taught to "LISTEN to my BODY", not the toys. I learnt really push myself damn hard...harder than I ever could have BUT but more importantly when "NOT TO PUSH". I do my easy stuff real easy so I could go much harder on the "hard" stuff, always respect my own pace (i.e. no EGO zone training). Also it's perfectly fine to have "slower days" or unable to hit the certain time.....just try my very best and enjoy training because consistency is the key! I have made a lot of progress over the past five months with boss and still have a very long way to go. I'm very much excited for the next coming 2018 season! Where I am.... I am in a much better place physically and mentally. It has been quite a progress trying to recover and really get better inside since the accident. The body seemed to heal much faster than the mind. I still find it difficult to cope with my right hand not being like what it used to with limited function. Certain tasks such as opening tight bottles/lid, writing and putting things back in a wallet are difficult and sometimes really frustrate me but I'm slowly coming to term with accepting it. (And for once thought this wouldn't allow me to be able to swim faster....which I was completely wrong! =D ) But yeah... my life is going in the perfect direction and getting to live my childhood dream is a bless. I'm as happy as I have ever been living everyday with gratitude. Guess bad things happen for a reason....or actually they are just "unfortunate", you just "LEARN from it or end up at in different (more fun) places after all! Thank you everyone so much for your support always! Wish you all a Merry Christmas and very happy New Year! ปีนี้ก็ขอจบแค่นี้นะคะ ขอขอบคุณทุกคนมากๆค่ะที่คอยสนับสนุนณิมาตลอด ^^ Finally, it's time to update my blog of what has been happening over these crazy two weeks of the two Phuket races, Laguna Phuket Triathlon and Ironman 70.3 Thailand. Racing big races two weeks in a row is definitely not a "chill pill" to anyone! Pushing your body and mind to their pain limits for more than 8 hours in total within a period of 7 days was very demanding....mentally challenging as well as physically! It's difficult as there were a pressure on me. This was my "home" game and for the first time ever having to defend a Champion title of the Thai winner in Laguna Phuket Triathlon from last year. In order to do well, I must not "think/overanalyze". I gave my trust completely to my coach and training , did my best to stay away from the hype, remained focused on "myself" and treated "recovery" as my first priority. Recovery time was well protected like a diamond. That included mainly sleeping and eating well (and binge Netflixing as I believe mentally resting was as important =P ). Greatly thank you to my mom, dad and Parys for letting me be a big baby for the week! Laguna Phuket Triathlon: I did not feel nervous, scare or emotional toeing the start. I just did the same thing I did in training, shut my brain, jumped in, whacked it hard 1 2 3 4......everything else was left behind. That's how the race flew by. I swam as hard as my little arms could turn and pedaled the hell out of my bike to open up the lead as much as I could. Felt great on the bike but when I started running I didn't feel well and got overtaken by the girl who won my AG. I told myself to keep going as hard as I could, try to push through it and stay strong. After 4km I felt so much better and so I kept going hard. It turned out to be a pretty good run at the end and I gave everything I have got. The most important thing to me was not really the title or whatever labels. I must put out the best race I could possibly can regardless to be satisfied.....and I did that! So I could really walk away and be happy about myself. Nevertheless, I was very proud to defend my Thai champion title and came 3rd fastest amateur of the day. แต่ก็ภูมิใจมากค่ะ ที่สามารถป้องกันตำแหน่งแชมป์หญิงไทยไว้ได้ ได้ที่ 2ในกลุ่มอายุ และที่3ทั้งหมด (ไม่รวมกลุ่มโปร) The week of "Recovery": The party was cut short on Sunday night as I still had my A-game to take care of. Monday an Tuesday were....a horrid. I felt like a zombie and was pretty much a big moody baby. By Wednesday morning, I felt more like myself again and got my energy level back. Sylvia (my friend from Vienna) and I went to scout out the bike course for the coming weekend. She taught me how to corner and some bike handling skills (and said "we will do that corner again!!! haha =p). I felt better and better towards the end of the week but then on Saturday, my body betrayed me and decided to be....erm "woman" ='/ . I had no energy even just walking around, feeling awful doing my race preps and super moody (sorry mom). I was really concerned but with a great advice from Susie and a reassurance from boss I felt better. I didn't hang around too many people and trying to stay as relaxed as much as I could.....got early dinner and went to bed right away. Ironman 70.3 Thailand: Here come the race day and I slept well! I woke up feeling so much better than yesterday but still had a bit of tummy cramp before the start. Well.....that didn't stop me from going hard! The same strategy as last week..."whack it out as hard as I could". Today for the first time I raced with no GPS, only a timer and a cadence meter for the bike. The task was to see how hard I could push myself in all three disciplines. It felt great! I felt strong today in the swim, more solid than last week. Held a good effort until reached the last turnaround....then I got kissed by the little jello baby in my left cheek. Half of my face was burning like hell but I tried my best to hang in there and kept swimming real hard to get out of the water. (To find out I did a PB swim after the race finished!) วันนี้ว่ายน้ำดีกว่าอาทิตย์ที่แล้วค่ะ รู้สึกแข็งแรงกว่า พอถึงจุดเลี้ยวจุดสุดท้ายเพื่อจะกลับมาขึ้นจากน้ำเจอแมงกะพรุนเข้าไปที่แก้มซ้ายค่ะ แสบสุดๆเลย แต่ว่าก็อดทนต่อไป รีบๆว่ายแล้วจะได้รีบๆขึ้น (มารู้ทีหลังว่าได้ personal best swim 555) On to the bike, I had good power right away from the first pedal stroke. A bit of a hiccup on the hill as one of the guy was blocking me and my friend on the way up.....he didn't look safe to be around too. We tried to dodge him but didn't turn out well for both of us. We ended up having to unclip and ran the bikes up hill. I was a bit gutted as I knew this was my strength and planned to play it as an advantage but I put it behind and continued riding my best. I was already grateful that we got through the hills safely with slippery road condition due to the rain last night. Super happy to made it to the run smoothly. I ran out as hard as I could....from the first step to the end with nothing left to spare. At first my legs were heavy but after a short while they picked up again. I had no idea how fast I was going but it was a super close battle between me and other two girls in my age group for the podium (which I didn't know at the time). I knew my friend, Elle was a super fast runner and she was chasing me down. However, another girl in front also starting to fade. I could see the gap was getting closer and closer! On the up-slope before the last U-turn, I decided to go "all out" and chased her down. I saw her back from quite a way away. I had no idea how long I had left to run but just thought it could not be too bad. I passed her just before the last turnaround, didn't look back and ran my little a*se off to the finish line with absolutely nothing left in the tank. I didn't even know what time of the day it was...... it only said "28C" at the finish line! The next thing I know my legs just decided to give up and didn't let me stand. I was escorted to the medical tent where I lied down and found out my result from my parent's phone.......I was shocked and almost passed out! I just got my personal best of 5.09hr on those hills with the best swim and run splits so far in an half iron-distance! So now it's that time to beat for the Thai ladies! ;) And of course, I was super happy to earn a podium spot coming 3rd in my age-group! I was very glad everything went well for these two races and that my hard work is starting to pay off. Thank you Boss for training me to be physically and mentally stronger in a short period of time.... I learnt a lot and will continue learning and be disciplined =) #MoreToCome Thank you so much everyone for your support on both races, on and off the courses. =D I'm very much looking forward to my last race of the season this Sunday, "Toyota Sattahip Triathlon" ! Toyota Sattahip Triathlon Special Thanks to The Phuket News for featuring me in the article ขอขอบคุณ The Phuket News สำหรับหัวข้อข่าวในหนังสือพิมพ์ค่ะ www.thephuketnews.com/one-to-watch-from-fun-runner-to-thai-elite-triathlete-nini-ready-for-ironman-70-3-thailand-64854.php#IsZQdAGr3Yweybxf.97 One sentence to sum up the day: "The best race I have put out so far since I know triathlon." It was not about chasing my personal best time or winning but the mentality test of my discipline to complete the task I was given, "to control myself" emotionally. A courage to face the fear and successfully overcoming irrational thoughts were the most important lessons added to my "Race and Learn" journey. How the day unfolded: I slept soundly the night before, which meant I was in a relaxed and calm mood as the boss put "J.A.R." in my head ( Just Another Race). To be honest, I thought of it as another big training day at race effort....nothing more. I swim, bike and run pretty much everyday so this should be no different. I just needed to make sure I get nutrition and hydration right on the bike. Arriving at the transition, well... embarrassing start for the day. I racked my bike in the wrong place. My number was 270 but I parked at 720! Thank you N'Bee for making me realized this and helped moving all my stuff (and me) just in time before the transition was closed. I wasn't nervous at the swim start, I knew exactly what to do and to expect....just like in training 1 2 3 4 whacked it out as hard as I could and catch some feet. Was in a pack at one point with couple of guys and it was a good swim day for me. Out of the water and up the stairs....the best warm up for quads before getting on the bike. I made my way calmly upwards, unzipping my speed suit and ran into the transition quickly. Luckily, I found Lucky27 and remembered that I just moved him to the right spot. I didn't get a chance to see the bike course before but thought it would be better not to see it. No hassles, no worries....pretty confident I would manage the hills (well the uphill parts lol). I rode conservatively at the beginning, got through the first climb no problem but descended like grandma as I didn't want to take any unnecessary risk. Picked up the pace along the way but made sure I had enough left in the tank to tackle more climbs towards the end as I had no insight. The weather was lovely today, shady and cool. I followed exactly what I planned on for nutrition and everything went smoothly. Didn't realized until the last incline that the bike was almost done and there were no more hills left....oh well...fine... ok then haha Relieved to get to the run safely but this was where my fears and irrational thoughts lied as I didn't run well in the races since May. BUT I did exactly what my boss told me "don't think, just run" so I threw off my GPS watch, left T2 like a maniac, shut down my brain and whacked it out "HARD"....there was "no race pace, heart-rate zone or whatever BS", just "go as hard as I could, hang in there and don't blow up". My legs were screaming, even louder on the uphills but I kept pushing on and on. For some reason, the big wall that we had to do three times (as it was a 3-lap course) seemed more and more satisfying every time I returned. Pain was phenomenal for the quads and my chest was about to explode butI loved every moment smacking right into it. This was the shortest 21km I ever ran....rhythm was consistent and every stride was very much spiritually fulfilling. Warmly welcoming organizers, Racing at a superb venue and the Epically fun trip: I would like to say a big thank you to the organizers of Challenge Kanchanaburi, "tab Agency" team ( https://www.facebook.com/tabagency/ ) for your hospitality and organizing such a wonderful and friendly event. Thank you for taking such a good care of us athletes. The race was perfectly organized on a beautiful venue. Absolutely perfect water to swim at Sri Nakarin dam, a beautiful challenging bike course with great roads to ride (trust me it's not that hilly!), an amazing and unique run course and very well placed aid stations throughout bike/run courses. ส่วนด้านเส้นทางการแข่งขันก็สนุกมากค่ะ ว่ายน้ำไม่ต้องเป็นกังวลเลย น้ำสะอาด ไร้คลื่น มีทีมงานดูแลด้านความปลอดภัยอย่างดีเยี่ยม เส้นทางจักรยานถนนดี สวยมากๆๆ ไม่ได้ยากอย่างที่คิดค่ะ คอร์สวิ่งก็ท้าทายดี ไม่มีเบื่อค่ะ มีขึ้นมีลง มีกองเชียร์เกือบตลอดทางเลย และจุดให้น้ำทั้งจักรยานและวิ่งมีตลอดทางค่ะ ไม่ต้องเป็นกังวลเลย มีทีมงานดูแลตลอดการแข่งขัน "Challenge Kanchanaburi" was such a superb experience for me and I would highly recommend this for everyone who's looking for the next self-challenge. ถ้าใครกำลังมองหาความท้าทายใหม่ๆให้กับชีวิต สนามนี้ Challenge Kanchanaburi ณิแนะนำว่าต้องมาลองพิสูจน์ ;) Lastly, my friends and me had a chance to do some sightseeing around Kanchanaburi after the race, the historical bridge, "Death railway" and "WWII museum". We really enjoyed this trip and had a lot of fun. It's ashamed that we didn't have enough time to see Erawan waterfall.....so guess we will be back next year! เพราะฉะนั้น ปีหน้าเจอกันใหม่ =D I'm happy to cross the finish line as the first amateur woman and the fastest Thai athlete of the day...but that's no where as important as getting the best out of myself and over the fear. I could look at my reflection and confidently say to myself I was my own champion on the day. Win or lose, I'd take that any day! Thank you my coach Brett so much for changing my triathlon attitudes, making it "personal" and learn the "internal drive"...and of course, "cut the BS". Cheers boss!
I'm so grateful to have this race in the bank putting my heart, head and spirit in a great place to defend my Thai Champion title at Laguna Phuket Triathlon and tackle another last two races of this year, Ironman 70.3 Thailand and Sattahip Triathlon. Back in training mode in Phuket for now and will do my best to finish this year as strong as I could. Thank you for all your support! When I was in medical school I wondered "why did we have to spend so much time doing these so-called "reflective writings". Thought it was a waste of time but honestly turned out to be one of the most powerful life skills Leicester Medical School has given me so far.....absolutely applicable to most life situations regardless of career paths I have chosen. It allows me to take a step back and logically analyze the situations/circumstances and make productive approaches rather than getting stuck in frustration and letting negative emotions take control when things do not go according to plan. Ironman 70.3 Danang: I have been training very hard for Ironman 70.3 Danang. Everything was going perfectly...all my datas from training was absolutely spot-on and obviously I was in the best shape I have ever been in my life, especially with cycling and running! I felt very positive going into this race and thought it would be my best race ever. But life will always throw you with surprises. I had a good swim and was the first one in my age-group out of the water. The bike was harder than last year with very strong wind. I kept my head down, concentrated and stayed in my zone but maybe I made a big mistake on my hydration. The day was quite shady and the wind was strong making me felt cool, I could possibly underestimate how much fluid I have lost and didn't drink enough. Came off the bike to the run, of which I felt very confident as things has been going more than great in my training. Unfortunately, this was where the disaster started... I realized for some reason I struggled to hold 6min/km pace and my legs felt like they were made of lead and stones! I was so upset and didn't know what was going on. I slowed down a bit but didn't feel any better....just kept my finger crossed that it was one of those days where you have a hard couple of first kilometers then things would get back into place but obviously not today! I struggled big time... I couldn't get my heart-rate up as my legs were rebelling on every step I forced it to take. Even more upsetting I lost my lead on my strongest discipline. The rest of the run was absolutely hell but at least the stronger side of me won the mental battle bringing me to finish line. The result was hard to swallow, coming 2nd in my age-group definitely did not make me feel happy at all in honesty. I had 3 weeks to recover. I was not in my best shape both physically and (more) mentally for Toyota Pattaya triathlon. Thank you to my coach for not letting me put too much pressure on myself with this one. We changed "racing" strategy to "playing" strategy instead so I could just go out enjoy the atmosphere and simply just have fun. Toyota Pattaya Triathlon: I'm just going to quickly sum up the race. I didn't have a good swim start so took it steady and decided to save it for hammering the bike. Unfortunately, it was raining like cats and dogs for the last 30 mins on the ride so I decided to put safety first for the day. After those two legs I didn't feel like pushing it anymore on the run so I just enjoyed it and be cautious on the downhills as I knew my foot is quite sensitive with previous injuries. I was happy just to finish with much a better feeling while running than in Danang where my confidence was pretty much shattered. Reflection: These two races were definitely not the best of my performance and did not reflect on my training. Of course, I'm very disappointed but I also learnt so much more about my true passion for the sport. I used to be a "podium" driven athlete, which meant I would be happy just to be on the podium.....too many praises and wrong encouragements for that was not really helping either. I was driven by external factors which did absolutely no good for my personal progress. I am honestly grateful for the feeling of disappointment despite my podium spots for both of these 2 races. They made me realized I'm really driven by "I want to be the best I could be" force. I knew now in order for me to be satisfied with my achievements I must put out my best possible performance...... anyone or anything else does not matter. Now I am very glad to go back to training and building the base again for the next half of the season. My next race will be Ironman 70.3 Cebu in August but stay tuned for my up coming adventures! Hi guys, now it’s time for another blog to recap what have been happening so far after my last successful race at "BangSaen Triathlon the Master" in February….and of course my training so far since then. After the race, I came back to Phuket for my recovery week and resumed my training at Thanyapura. I am very excited and fortunate to be supported by this amazing place as a brand ambassador, allowing me to have an access to world class sport facilities and an opportunity to train with very best professional athletes and amazing coaches. I trained very lightly during the first week after the race, just few easy rides with the group and some swim sessions. This is also a good opportunity to make sure my twisted ankle was rested and fully healed. I knew I need to put out more hard training blogs to build up for my next upcoming race in the first week of May, Ironman 70.3 Danang so I made sure I was well rested mentally as well as physically in order to be fresh again and put out quality sessions. Alright, back to training! My most favorite triathlon session at Thanyapura is definitely the “Terminator” on Thursday morning with coach Daniel Amby. We started off with a very easy relaxing ride where everyone can have a good chat as a warm up on the beautiful rolling terrain with ocean view of Ao Por. At the end of the loop on the last stretch, we set up a “pace line” and PUSH SUPER HARD! This is where I would be trying my very best to hang on to my dear life as long as I could not to get drop! I find that having many stronger athletes to train with is definitely one of the best ways to motivate and help push me push beyond my limit and getting the most out of my tough training sessions. It’s also important to get the balance right. Hard days are HARD but easy days are easy and FUN! The “Sunday” group ride to Phanga with a bakery stop for banana cakes is relaxing and also a great way to meet new people and socialize with other athletes coming from different parts if the world. I find it very interesting to get to know them and share our experiences of the sport from different parts of the world…. Always learn something new! This is my “reward” of the week for all the tough days. It’s a great privilege and very inspiring to train with Phuket based professional athletes on Thanyapura Triathlon Pro Team, Ritchie Nicholls, Eimear Mullan and Imke Oelerich. The training group was even bigger and more fun joined by other top pros from Germany Andeas Drietz, Michael Raelert, Johannes Moldan and Fabian Reuter. They also gave me very good tips about trainining and sharing useful experiences in triathlon. Thank you very much guys and gals…. (and also thank you very much for waiting for a slow poke =P Furthermore, to keep my motivation going between the long build up between two races. I chose to do a short running race in between as this could be used as a good training to get my speed up and a marker for improvements/progresses. I had an amazing day at Supersports 10 Mile International Run 2017 Phuket hosted by Thanyapura joining the 5-mile race. I came 3rd overall and in my age-group. I was very satisfied with my time and it indicated that my running has been going very well. (And thank you Elle Brooke, the running machine for the fast magical running vest ;) And of course, we went out for a recovery ride after….and took lots of photos! So I have used my easy week productively and wrote this blog before hitting hard again for the next 3 weeks as a final push before Danang in 4 weeks’ time. I will do my very best to be in the best shape possible! Please wish me luck! Cheerios!
ณิก็ได้ใช้เวลาว่างในอาทิตย์ที่ซ้อมเบาหน่อยอย่างเป็นประโยชน์ มาบอกเล่าอัพเดทให้ฟังกันค่ะ ก่อนที่จะเริ่มซ้อมหนักในบล็อกสุดท้ายของการแข่งขัน Ironman 70.3 ที่เมืองดานัง ประเทศเวียดนาม ตอนนี้ก็ขอตั้งใจซ้อมให้เต็มที่ เพื่อที่จะได้ฟิตพร้อมให้มากที่สุดสำหรับการแข่งขันค่ะ เป็นกำลังใจให้ด้วยนะคะ ขอบคุณมากค่ะ #Thanyapura #OptimiseYourLife I honestly don't know where to start writing the summary of this race....so many epic moments and ranges of emotions. I couldn't be more happy with awesome splits especially with my run, winning the race for the Thai Elite and came 9th overall among world class professional triathletes despite having to do extra 4km on the bike and ran the last 7.5km on a sprained ankle. The best addition for my "race and learn" experience: this race taught me the importance of staying mentally strong when things didn't go according to plan. You can never know what lies ahead so never give up the chase and be the best you can be in the present moment! Reflecting on this preparation has helped to boost up my pre-race confidence and I felt very positive. The swim didn't quite go according to plan as I missed the front pack again by a tad.....absolutely painful to see them 5-10meter away. I decided to settle down with other two guys around me and didn't go hard...would be better to save it for the bike as pushing in the swim wouldn't save me much time. Lucky27 and me were having a blast on the bike. We felt very strong and happy together...knowing it was going to be a great day for us. BUT unfortunately with a bit of confusion, I made a wrong u-turn which sent us back 2km and I lost all my lead from the swim as the other girls rode pass me in the opposite direction already!! T^T I felt so shocked and that definitely threw me off....this was the first time I was in this situation. I didn't know what to do...one chimp inside my head wanted to just quit the race and the other chimp said lets go out real hard trying to catch them back. I managed to shut both of them up by the time I made the U-turn back on the course and the voice of sanity said "STICK TO THE PLAN!! Keep riding in your own zone and don't let anything stop you from having a good run..." Fortunately (and for once), I was strong enough to made up some good times on the bike and put out my best bike performance so far in a triathlon with fresh and well preserved legs for the run. At that time I didn't have any options but to only focus on doing my very best in running. Started off at 4.40 minutes for the first km....grrr too fast. I forced myself to slow down despite feeling very good still...again lets stick to the plan as I still had a long way to go. I ran the first 5-6 km feeling great but being muppet (as usual) the 7.5km caused me to twisted my right ankle. I fell down and got a small scratch on my hand......feeling extremely upset at this moment. Definitely not quite the type of pain I was expected to embrace........ The chimp shouted "Got lost on a bike and now you twisted your ankle....just give up this is not your day!".... I managed to shut that thought 2 seconds later and told myself "No...this is MY DAY, I will make it happen!". With my "injuries" background I could easily got up and just kept running (like mad) to reached the 10th km at my triathlon PB time, caught the front girl on the last hill 2-3km away from the finish line and the rest was a blank and the next thing I knew was people cheering at the just before I crossed the finish line as the Thai Champion of the day! I couldn't be more happy with my performance on this race. I remembered last year I did't even sign up for it until the last minute because I was only 1 month and bit fully out of my rehab and just able to run on the road. I wasn't even sure if I was fit enough to finish solidly last year and to win the Thai elite this year means a lot to me. I have came so far from where I was 13 months ago and BangSaen triathlon would always be special =') Thank you my coach and physio, Parys for training and rehab program. Definitely make a lot of difference having my glues firing properly. Thank you my parents and friends for mental and training supports. It had been tough with a big decision to change my training but I'm glad I'm now back on track and absolutely loving my training again!! Thank you to my sponsors for believing in me always and always: #TeamSingha #SinghaSpirit #NewtonEMclinic #Avarin #B&BOutdoorsports (Kitbrix/Aquasphere) #SkinsThailand #Amorn Bicycles #Argon18 #Thanyapura #GuEnergy #ReflexNutrition #Musashi from Thai Sport Supplements #OnRunningThailand Thank you Sport Master for an amazing event and I can't wait to race again, again and again! Thank you P'Tum and P'Ben for your hard work to make this happened. I'm very glad the first race of the year went much better than I expected and I'm only in the beginning of this year training. Now I am back to my training base in Phuket for the next 2 months to build up for my next race, Ironman 70.3 Danang in May!! And of course take it easy until my ankle is fully healed! Very much looking forward to go even stronger!! Cheerios Nini Lets take a look at the recap of how 2016 has unfolded for me but first l would like to share some good news from my last two home-game races for this season in Phuket! |
